Islamabad: As the month of Ramadan draws to a close, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to convene in Islamabad today to observe the sighting of the Shawwal-ul-Mukarram moon, marking a crucial step in determining the date for Eid-ul-Fitr 2024 celebrations.
Chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the Committee’s meeting will see participation from representatives of various institutions, including the Ministry of Science and Technology and The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission, along with zonal members from Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar.
Highlighting the significance of public engagement in the moon sighting process, Maulana Azad has urged citizens to actively participate in the search for the Shawwal-ul-Mukarram crescent.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has anticipated that the Shawwal moon is likely to be visible across the country on April 9, with the birth of the moon expected on the night of April 8 at 11:21 pm local time.
Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival of breaking the fast, holds great importance for Muslims worldwide, symbolizing the culmination of a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection. It is a time for joyous gatherings, feasting, and sharing blessings with family and friends.
Earlier observations from Saudi Arabia indicated that the Shawwal Crescent moon was not sighted on Monday, April 8.
