Lahore: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Siraj-ul-Haq has resigned from the position of Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan.
According to details, Siraj-ul-Haq has announced his decision to step down from the position of Ameer (chief) of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan following the party’s dismal performance in the recent elections, where it failed to secure any National Assembly seats. The party only managed to clinch three seats in the Sindh and Balochistan assemblies, one of which was recently vacated by JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman.
Taking full accountability for the election setback, Siraj-ul-Haq announced his resignation from the role of party ameer in a post shared on social media platform X. He stated, “I acknowledge my responsibility for the defeat in the election and have consequently resigned from the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami.”

It is worth noting that Siraj-ul-Haq is a prominent figure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s politics. He rose to prominence in 2014 when he was elected as the leader of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), succeeding Syed Munawar Hassan. The election took place at the JI Headquarters Mansoora, where out of 31,311 office-bearers, 25,533 participated, ultimately leading to Siraj-ul-Haq’s victory. He served as the party chief for a five-year term and was re-elected in 2019. However, after a decade of service to JI, Siraj-ul-Haq has now resigned from his position.
