Islamabad: The caretaker government has implemented a substantial increase in the prices of petroleum products, further deepening concerns among an already inflation-burdened public.
The caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar has approved an increase in the prices of petroleum products for the next 15 days, as per the recommendation of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA_. Following his approval, as of February 1, 2024, the price of petrol has surged by Rs 13.55 per liter, reaching a new high at Rs 272.89 per liter, according to a notification issued on Wednesday.
The high-speed diesel price also experienced an increase of Rs 2.75 per liter, now standing at Rs 278.96 per liter. Light diesel oil has also undergone an increase of Rs 2.03 per liter, with the new price being Rs 166.86 per liter.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had previously announced an increase in LPG prices, with the cost per kilogram rising by Rs 17 to reach Rs 257.60. Conversely, a marginal reduction of 24 paisas per liter in the price of kerosene oil has been approved.
After the increase in petrol price, the new rate has risen from Rs. 259.34 to Rs. 272.89. Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel has increased from Rs. 276.21 to Rs. 278.96 with an additional Rs. 2.75.
The new prices of petroleum products took effect from midnight between Wednesday and Thursday, and these rates will remain applicable until February 15.
