New Delhi: Hindu extremists in India launched an attack on a mosque and church during a rally.
According to news agencies, radical Hindu groups, associated with the ruling BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, organized a victory rally the day after the inauguration of the Ram Mandir, built on the site of the 16th-century Babri Masjid, demolished by Hindu extremists. During this rally, a historical mosque and church were targeted.
In the Balochpura area of Uttar Pradesh, the Begum Shahi Mosque, constructed in 1677 during the Mughal era, was stormed by around 1,000 to 1,500 fanatic Hindus who vandalized the mosque. The extremists shouted provocative Hindu slogans, attacked the mosque’s Imam, and raised the saffron flag of Hinduism on the minaret, declaring that they would demolish a thousand more Babri Masjids.
The Indian police reported the arrest of 11 individuals on charges of displaying the Hindu flag on the Mughal-era mosque. However, the police did not disclose their identities.
In another incident in Madhya Pradesh, an attack was carried out on a church. The attackers climbed the church walls, removed the cross, and raised the Hindu flag. The assailants also engaged in aggressive sloganeering. Additionally, similar incidents were reported in regions of Bihar, Dabtalai, Matasula, Uberao , and Dhamaninathu, while Kerala, Karnataka, and Assam also witnessed such events.
