Korcula: The name ‘matches’ typically brings to mind the act of lighting a fire, but an artist in Croatia has compelled people to think beyond igniting flames by creating astonishing sculptures using matchsticks.
According to international news agencies, a Croatian artist, Tomislav Horvat, started creating sculptures using matchsticks six years ago. Initially, he crafted relatively small-sized sculptures, but later, in 2013, he began creating bigger sculptures that left people amazed.
Among Horvat’s matchstick art, there is also a sculpture of the Hollywood legendary actor Al Pacino, known for his iconic role in the classic film “The Godfather.” According to Tomislav, the Al Pacino sculpture is the centerpiece of all his works. Tomislav stated that after Al Pacino, his second significant work is the “The Pianist,” and in the third place is the “Desperate Man,” composed of 54,000 matchsticks.
