Karachi: The Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi (ACPKHI), an unwavering champion of art and culture, is proud to host the Pakistan Theatre Festival 2023 (PTF 2023). This month-long extravaganza, running from September 8 to October 8, promises to be a feast for the senses, featuring over 45 enthralling shows, engaging talks, and enlightening workshops.
PTF 2023 marks a significant celebration of theatre, uniting artists from Pakistan and around the world. With seven international theatre groups hailing from the USA, Germany, Turkey, Iran, and Sri Lanka, alongside 27 national theatre groups, this festival transcends borders to embrace artistic collaboration.
The international theatre groups, thoughtfully selected in partnership with their respective consulates, represent their nations and cultures. They add a global dimension to Pakistan’s vibrant theatrical landscape, fostering unity through art.
Esteemed directors such as Salman Shahid, Rehan Sheikh, and Khaled Anum infuse their creative genius into the productions, offering a diverse range of plays, from contemporary works to beloved classics like “Taleem-i-Balighan.” Imran Aslam, a theatrical maestro, is honored with a special presentation of “Art Aur Aata,” celebrating his legacy.
PTF 2023 also showcases regional languages like Sindhi and Punjabi, preserving native linguistic expressions and promoting artistic diversity. Families can enjoy the specially curated children’s play, “Sazish ki Wajeh se Khel Multavi,” promising a magical afternoon for young hearts.
For those captivated by the written word, dramatic readings of plays like “Chadravati” by Rehan Sheikh and other evocative readings provide an intimate glimpse into the power of storytelling.
Adding an international touch, traditional Sri Lankan dance makes its Pakistani stage debut with Chandna Wikramsinghe and The Dancers Guild of Sri Lanka, celebrating the fusion of diverse cultures.
Physical theatre takes the spotlight as UpLift Physical Theatre performs “Through The Waves,” offering a mesmerizing experience for the audience.
