Beirut: Israel has carried out aerial strikes on defense installations in central Syria.
According to international media reports, the Syrian army said in a statement that Israel fired missiles from Lebanese airspace at military sites in central Syria overnight, causing damage to the installations. Israel attacked the coastal city of Tartus near Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s hometown in western Syria, killing two Syrian soldiers and wounding six others.
It is pertinent to mention that Israel has conducted hundreds of strikes in Syria over the last few years, but has largely refrained from attacking the coastal provinces where Russia has major military assets.
