Kabul: China has become the first country to appoint its ambassador to Afghanistan during the Taliban’s government.
According to international media reports, Taliban spokesperson Bilal Karimi stated that Chinese Ambassador Zhao Sheng had presented his diplomatic credentials to Prime Minister Mullah Hassan Akhund. Prime Minister Mullah Hassan Akhund accepted the ambassador’s credentials during the diplomatic ceremony.
This is the first appointment of an ambassador by any country since the establishment of the Taliban government in Afghanistan. No country has officially recognized the Taliban government since they took control of Afghanistan in 2021.
It should be noted that the tenure of the Chinese ambassador posted in Afghanistan in 2019 ended last month.
On the other hand, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its statement said that the posting of the Chinese ambassador in Afghanistan is a routine move. The purpose of the ambassador’s appointment is to promote China-Afghan dialogue and cooperation.
