Ujjain: In Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, a distressing incident occurred on Friday evening when a Muslim female doctor, who works as a physiotherapist, was molested and physically assaulted by two young men while she was heading home. The accused have been apprehended by the police in connection with the incident.
According to the victim’s statement to the police, the incident took place in the Mirchi Nala area. One of the accused, Hitesh Badwaya, intercepted her path and forcibly tugged at her dupatta. When she resisted, the other person with Badwaya held her hands while both of them subjected her to a physical assault.
Outraged by this heinous act of violence against a woman from the Muslim community, locals gathered in large numbers the next day and surrounded the police station in protest. In response to the demonstrations, the police took prompt action and arrested both of the accused.
The incident drew further attention as Congress leaders and members of the Muslim community also joined the protests and submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police (SP). In their memorandum, they demanded stringent action against the perpetrators and urged for the demolition of their houses.
While the police have detained two of the attackers, the victim claimed in a video shared on Twitter by the Madhya Pradesh Congress that five people were involved in the attack.
The incident has sparked significant public outrage, shedding light on the ongoing issue of violence against women in India.
