India Air Force to send Abhinandan on sick leave

NEW DELHI:  The debriefing of Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured by Pakistan after Pakistan Air Force (PAF) shot down his plane, has been completed.

A Hindustan Times report said that IAF will send the pilot on sick leave.

A medical review board in the near future will assess the medical fitness of the Wing Commander and decide when he can resume his operations as a fighter pilot, the newspaper said.

The Wing Commander will now go on sick leave for a few weeks on the advice of doctors of Army’s Research and Referral Hospital, the report added.

Abhinandan’s MiG -21 Bison fighter plane was shot down during a dogfight by PAF fighter jet and the pilot ejected before the plane crash.

He was taken into custody by the Pakistan Army when his parachute drifted and fell inside the PoK. He was released on March 1 after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on February 28 announced to release him as “a peace gesture”.
