TANDO ADAM: A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member of Sindh Assembly was sentenced to three years in prison in a case registered against the provincial lawmaker for giving a cheque, which was dishonoured.
A local court in Tando Jam handed down the sentence to the PTI MPA Dewan Sachanand.
A case was registered against the MPA for issuing cheque which was dishonoured by the concerned bank. A judicial magistrate heard the case.
Judge Kamran Kalhoro after hearing arguments from the counsels of the accused prosecution pronounced a verdict in the case. The judge handed a three-year prison term to Sachanand after he was proven guilty.
Sachanand had issued a cheque of Rs10 million to one, Seth Ayub Rajput. The cheque was bounced, after which Rajput got registered an FIR against Sachanand some three years ago.
Sachanand was out on bail in the case. The PTI MPA was arrested from the court premises following the court verdict.
Sachanand was elected member of the Sindh Assembly on a reserved seat for minorities after July 25 general elections.
Sachanand said that he would appeal against the conviction in higher court.
