MUMBAI: Thanks to Joe Root’s heroic, England have chased down the mammoth 230, the highest T20 total against South Africa to get a 2-wicket victory in the sixth Super-10 (Group-2) match of ICCÂ WT20 2016 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
After winning an important toss, England skipper Morgan chose to field first.
But, decision proved terribly wrong for him, as both South African openers, thrashed them all over them and posted 83 in first six overs.
Amla (58), de Cock (52) and Dumini down the order (54*) helped South Africa post a giant total of 229/4 in first 20 overs.
England in reply, showed their intent right from the first ball. Chasing mammoth total of 230, England had posted 93 runs in first 6 overs.
First Jason Roy (43 off 16), and then Joe Root’s brilliant 83 off just 44 balls with six 4s and four 6s in his inning to give England a memorable and much needed 2-wicket victory over South Africa and a life in the tournament.
