ISLAMABAD: Samsung Galaxy S7 would be out in two days i.e 11th March. Speculations and reviews have been conducted across the globe and TNT brings a collective summary of expert reviews and pre-release user reviews on the latest Samsung release.
Design and Dimensions
S-7 didn’t go far from S-6 in design changes, with the same metal side strip and rounded corners the only major change comes in the back cover which is a quite similar to how Samsung treated the Galaxy Note 5. Dimensions however are a little smaller than S6 the new Samsung Galaxy S7 would measure 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm compared to 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8 mm dimensions of S6. Back cover is a little irritating since it gets smudgy very easily. It also weighs a little heavier than S6 at 152 grams.
Screen and Display
No big surprises here either, Samsung is using the same Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors with a 1,440 x 2,560 pixels QHD resolution. The display is Always-on with three basic options to select from including; multiple geo-located clocks, calendar or a pattern. Always-on display draws only 1% battery per charge.
Camera
Samsung has reduced the camera to 12MP but improve the capturing experience by many fold. First and far most it has a better auto focus feature with almost seamless switching. Moreover, Samsung has improved the auto camera to capture 25% more light for better picture quality. More new features include simultaneous 4k and 9MP video recording and new preset capturing modes. Front still holds a 5MP camera however with a dual video call option.
Operating System and Storage
Galaxy S7 is Samsung’s first Android 6 model, it comes pre-loaded on the Samsung Galaxy S7. Samsung is releasing it with only 32GB storage however with extendable storage option through MicroSD cards.
Battery and Durability
Battery usage is optimized with built in power saving options in Android 6.0 and an increased battery size, 3000 mAh, for its non-removable battery. Samsung has tried to bring more finesse to the phone in both looks and usage yet maintained durability. The IP68 certification is back which means the phone is water proof under 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.
Optimizations
Samsung has optimized S7 for better performance, there is lesser bloatwear and more energy to Samsung Galaxy S7. A new icon tray has been introduced to easily move icons from one screen to another. Samsung also added a gaming feature; a sand-boxed area where you can save your gaming titles and access tools to improve gaming experience. You can also shed frame-rates and processing to save battery. You can also lock buttons, disable alerts and record your game screen.
Samsung Galaxy S7 is priced at an average 669 US$ which is considered a just price for the features.
