Army, Navy schools closed for 4 days amid security concerns

KARACHI: Army Public Schools (APSs) and schools working under Pakistan Navy in Karachi have been closed on Wednesday amid security concerns.

The APSs and schools working under Pakistan Navy will remain closed till February 2 due to security concerns.

After Bacha Khan University tragedy, directions have been given to tighten the countrywide security of educational institutions. There has been a three level security plan formed for the schools. There will be high-level security given to schools under Forces, mid-level security in missionary schools and normal security in government and private schools.

Meanwhile walk-through gates have been installed on all the entrance gates of Karachi University. There will be eight feet high walls built around the university. There is no police personnel posted on 80% of Karachi’s schools. It has been directed to elevate the walls of schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and to put barbed wires on them.

In Lahore, according to the new security plan, 12 government schools, 131 boys’ colleges, 19 women colleges and 19 universities have been put under A+ security category. In Islamabad the administrations of educational institution have been directed to post security guards on roof tops.

The Pharmacy department of Islamia University Bahawalpur have been sealed due to poor security.
