LAHORE: Pakistan beat Korea in Junior Asia Cup Hockey  semi-final to reach Asia Junior final of the tournament.

“Pakistan beat South Korea in semifinal on penalty shootouts by 8-7,” media reported.

“The match was level at 2-2 after the end of regular time,” reports added. Pakistan will clash with India in the final of the tournament on Sunday. India beat Japan 6-1 in the semifinal.

“This is really a proud moment for the whole team that we have qualified for next year’s Junior World Cup. Our junior team members have shown the critics that they are the best selection,” a spokesman for the Pakistan Hockey Federation said. “Pakistan never take any team for granted.

Our players have clear instructions to maintain their team play and also keep faith in their abilities. They did so and proved their worth in Malaysia,” the spokesman added. Pakistan winning captain Ammad Butt was quoted as saying that they played their best hockey.

“We were under pressure because of the importance of the match and had our practice match defeat against China at the back of our mind, but our coach encouraged us and we won. It is a bonus for us playing against Korea because we have a better chance of winning,” said Ahmad.

“We have already defeated them 3-0 in the pool matches. We are determined to make it to the Finals since we are looking at our long-term plan of playing in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo,” he concluded.
