Mummies have always been a source of amusement and curiosity among the public. Several movies have featured them but the topic is never obsolete. They have been found in almost every continent and the oldest mummy discovered till now is around 6,000 years old.
In spite of reality that they are not alive, one feels quite scared that they would get up.
Tollund Man was hung in Denmark during the 4th century as a ritual human sacrifice. For more than 2 millennia, he has been sleeping peacefully in a swampy bog.
La Doncella was another case of human sacrifice. She was left to freeze to death by her village. The mummified 15-year-old girl seems to be taking a short nap and looks as if she would suddenly wake up.
A 200-year-old ‘meditating’ mummy was found on January 27, 2015 in Mongolia. Sitting in the lotus position, the mummified monk was covered in cattle skin and appeared to be doing a simple yoga exercise.
St. Vincent de Paul died in 17th century, and he is one of the most well-preserved mummies in the world. If you take a look at him, it’d appear as if he was in a deep slumber, and not dead for centuries.
