ICC introduced new rules to ODI cricket

BARBADOS: International Cricket Council (ICC) has passed the new rules for One Day International (ODI) cricket during it two-day meeting held in Barbados on Thursday-Friday, revised ICC Playing Conditions approved and come into effect from 5 July.

According to reports, Integrity Working Party’s recommendations were approved by ICC by which, the second power play [batting power play] which was due during 15 to 40 overs has now been taken off.

The experts believe the rule will favour the bowlers most as cricket had turned a batsman-game only.

On the other hand, another major rule change was announced which could favor batsmen. According to rule, there will be a free hit given on every type of No Ball bowled by the bowler.

Earlier, the free-hit was restricted to front-foot No Balls.

The key changes were:

o   No compulsory catchers in overs 1-10 (ODIs)

o   No batting Powerplay between overs 15-40 (ODIs)

o   Five  fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle in overs 41-50 (ODIs)

o   All “no balls”,  not just “foot faults”, to result in a free hit (ODIs & T20Is)
