French mayor sacked for his controversial tweet against Islam

PARIS: Former president of France, Nicholas Sarkozy has terminated the mayor who claimed in his controversial tweet that Islam would be banned in France by 2027.

According to details, Robert Chardon belonged to Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) created a controversy when he tweeted multiple times on Thursday, May 14, that “the religion of Islam will be banned in France on Oct. 18, 2027.”

“Anyone practicing the religion should be “immediately escorted to the border,” mayor of the southern town of Venelles added.

Initially it was assumed that his account was hacked and these tweets were made from hackers, but later on Robert confirmed his tweets.

Reacting on his controversial statement, vice president of UMP Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet told media that Robert Chardon has been sacked for his controversial statements and soon he will be terminated from party as well.

“These kind of ridiculous statements do not represent us and we have ordered to take serious measures against him,” he added.

Earlier, Nicholas Sarkozy condemned former mayor’s statement and said that even secularism has certain boundaries to let limits and rights stand together.
