ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday demanded of the state to take action against what it said mafia like organisation MQM for its involvement in burning alive over 258 innocent labourers of Baldia factory.
In a statement issued, PTI Central Information Secretary Dr Shireen Mazari said that it was shocking but not surprising to see the findings of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in the Baldia Town factory fire in which at least 258 workers died.
The JIT report which was submitted to the Sindh High Court, puts the blame on the MQM as being behind this deadly fire.
This statement said the information had been disclosed by suspect Mohammad Rizwan Qureshi, an alleged worker of the MQM, on June 22, 2013 during joint investigation.
According to the JIT report, the MQM worker revealed that a “well-known party high official” had demanded Rs200 million as extortion (Bhatta), through his frontman, from Ali Enterprises, the owners of the ill-fated factory, in Aug 2012.
Mazari said this is not the first revelation – although to date it is the deadliest incident – of extortion by this political party in the urban centres of Sindh. With this revelation clearly the Party is now less a political force and more a mafia organisation that has let loose a reign of terror in Karachi.
Mazari demanded the state immediately act against this mafia organisation and expose its political front which provides a cover for the lethal mafia operations of the MQM.
Mazari said the govt must also seek a return of the exiled leader of this Mafia group so that he can be tried for the death of the poor factory workers who fell victim to the MQM extortionist agenda and paid for it with their lives.
