Raza Rabbani tearful after voting in Senate for military courts

ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Raza Rabbani on Tuesday had teary eyes while speaking in the Upper House of the Parliament after voting on the 21st Constitutional Amendment, saying that he had never been so ashamed as he was while voting for this amendment.

Rabbani, a thorough democrat who has been struggling for democracy and civilian supremacy in the country for decades, was staunch opponent of the idea of setting up military courts.

On Tuesday, while taking part in the debate after Senate passed the 21st Constitutional Amendment, Rabbani said that the vote he cast in support of the Amendment was party’s trust.

He said that today he voted for setting up the military courts through against his conscious.

“I have been in Senate for more than 12 years, but was  never so ashamed than he i am today and i cast my vote against my conscious,” the Senator said while his voice chocked with emotion and tears rolling down on his cheek.

He said that he would decide his future line of action.
