Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad completes 12 years as Governor Sindh

KARACHI: Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad has completed 12 year as  Governor Sindh on Friday to earn the spot in top three longest tenure on the same post in the world.

Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad has been on the post since 27 December 2002 when he took charge as 30th Governor of the province.

However, first and second spot holders belonged to two governors of United States.

He also holds the record of youngest governor while he is also the first man to hold the post longer than any other governor in Pakistan from all four provinces.

Ishrat-ul-Ebad also given the top civil award of Pakistan ‘Nishan-e-Imtiaz’ over providing his long services to the people.

He is the first governor to form his own social media account from which he interact people directly and solve their problems as well.

The Governor resigned on 27 June 2011, but his resignation was not accepted by the President of Pakistan. He resumed his official Governor duties from Tuesday, 19 July 2011.

He is also one of the senior leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). He also holds dual nationality as a British citizen as well.

Governor Sindh also played an important after horrific Peshawar attack to keep the every society engaged.

Ishrat-ul-Ebad played a pivotal role in defusing tension and violence in the province by holding political talks with members of other political parties. He has played an instrumental role in getting the 22 hostages released from the Somalian pirates captivity with the partnership of Ansar Burney who leads a human rights organisation.
