Islamabad makes ’20 prominent decisions’ for anti-terrorism plan of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani Prime Minister chaired parliamentary conference on Wednesday night concluded with consensus on 20-point agenda including establishment of speedy trial courts under military officers.

It is pertinent to mention here that the PM Nawaz Sharif all set to address Pakistani nation to gain confidence regarding nation action plan against terrorism and extremism.

Consensus has been made amongst political and military heads during the 11-hour long PM Nawaz Sharif-led parliamentary conference which was also attended by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (DG-ISI) Lieutenant-General Rizwan Akhtar.

Military-Courts

Establishment of military courts to try high-profile terrorists became most debatable point in the high-level meeting. However, the majority moved in favour of military-run ‘speedy trial courts’ under chair of military officers.

Pakistani legislators reportedly formed a committee comprising of legal experts to recommend amendments in the Constitution to remove legal complexities in establishment of special courts.

Special courts would be formed reportedly for restricted duration up to next two years. The courts will try high-profile terrorists within minimum time, a joint resolution said.

Few more prominent decisions that were taken with consensus by the top leadership include:

  1. Peshawar school carnage was declared most ‘condemnable’.
  2. Rapid decisions must be taken for unusual situation of the country.
  3. Each anti-terrorism institution will be empowered in Pakistan.
  4. Pakistan will activate anti-terrorism institution, National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) to end terrorism.
  5. Special amendments will be made in the Constitution to create paths to try terrorists in special courts in the country.
  6. Major reformations in the criminal justice system.
  7. Joint efforts of neighbouring countries including Pakistan and Afghanistan could end terrorism.
  8. Immediate reformations in administration and development sectors in Federally Administered Tribal Aread (FATA)
  9. Special arrangements and decision to be finalised to send Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their homes.
  10. Policies to send back Afghanistan refugees currently present in Pakistan.
  11. Balochistan government will be supported to endow political understandings in the province.
  12. Sealing all paths that would help activation of outlawed organisations in the country.
  13. Communication system of terrorist outfits will be destroyed completely.
  14. Banning all financial and media routes that are supporting terrorism.
  15. No place or permission to form an armed group in the country.
  16. Formation of special courts led by military officers.
  17. Special courts will be formed for specific duration up to next two years.
  18. Specific time will be allocated to the special courts to try terrorists.
  19. Karachi operation will be fastened till a logical result. Anti-terrorism solutions will be finalised to counter terrorism in any part of Pakistan especially in Punjab province.
  20. Formation of anti-terrorism force.
