COAS signs death warrant of GHQ attack mastermind, will be hung in 24 hours

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has signed the death warrant of Aqeel Ahmed known as Dr Usman involved in Generals Headquarters’ (GHQ) attack.

According to reports, COAS General Raheel Sharif signed the death warrants after meeting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at GHQ.

Aqeel’s will be hung within next 24 hours. Police also arranged last meeting of Aqeel with his brother in Faisalabad where he is in custody.

At least 10 soldiers were killed during the attack on the army headquarters on October, 10, 2009 while nine of the ten attackers were also killed.

Dr Usman was injured during the attack and taken into custody.

Earlier, He had filed a mercy appeal in the tenure of Asif Ali Zardari which was rejected by him.

Shortly after the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009, Aqeel Ahmed alias Dr Usman alias Kamran alias Nazir Ahmed fled to Waziristan where he met the head of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan’s Amjad Farooqui Group, Ustad Aslam Yasin and Ilyas Kashmiri.
