MADRID: US cellular app based taxi service, Uber, is facing quite tough time as the organisation received back-to-back ban notices in three countries including India, Thailand and Spain.
Uber operations were banned on Tuesday by a Spanish judge said in a statement after ruling a lawsuit “lack the administrative authorisation to carry out the job, and the activity they carry out constitutes unfair competition,”
The verdict emerged after strong protests carried out by Madrid Taxi Association who challenged Uber’s ‘unauthorised drivers’ and ‘unfair competition’ in the court.
Thailand also took strict measures against Uber taxi services as its land transport department on Tuesday restricted Uber Technologies Corp to use using private cars in its smartphone-app-based booking operation.
The country sought larger fines against Uber drivers found running the services while the ban imposed after a meeting with Thailand’s three taxi-booking services representatives including US-based Uber, Singapore’s GrabTaxi Pte Ltd, and Easy.
Uber was directed strictly to comply the department’s regulations if willing to continue operations in the country after being reviewed by the Information and Communication Technology Ministry whether its smartphone app declared safe for passengers.
Earlier on December 8, Indian authorities in New Delhi banned Uber taxi services after an alleged rape of a female passenger by driver.
The 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped by the driver of her booked taxi after she was taken to a secluded area.
The driver has not been arrested by the security agencies and given on remand for three days.
