Taliban attack on Kandahar police leaves five dead in Afghanistan

At least five persons were killed in an attack on police station in Kandahar which was carried out by Taliban fighters backed by a suicide bomber.

Fresh attack by Taliban insurgents was carried out on Afghan security forces in the southern province of Kandahar, killing a policeman and four civilians, foreign news agency reported on Monday.

According to report, a suicide bomber dressed in police uniform blew himself explosive-laden vehicle on the main gate of the compound in Maiwand district of Kandahar while four heavily armed men suddenly entered inside and resorted to firing on security officials for two hours.

The attackers claimed to be killed by the security forces, government spokesman Sameem Khpalwak said.

Qadri Yusuf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman in southern Afghanistan, claimed responsibility of the attack on security forces in Kandahar.
