ISLAMABAD: Central Information Secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shireen Mazari on Thursday said that PTI was not consulted over appointment of Justice Sardar Raza Khan as new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
Mazari while addressing a press conference announced that PTI was not consulted by Opposition Leader or the government over appointment of Justice Sardar Raza Khan as new Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan (CEC).
She said that PTI respected honourable Justice Sardar Raza Khan, however, still PTI stood by its call for reconstitution of the ECP .
Following the pressure from the Supreme Court (SC), which had set Dec 5 last deadline for appointment of a permanent CEC and withdrew its judge serving as Acting CEC from that date, the government and opposition agreed on the name of Justice Sardar Raza Khan to appoint as new Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan in a parliamentary committee meeting on Thursday (today).
The committee meeting was presided over by PML-N Senator Rafiq Jawana. PTI’s member on the committee Shahryar Afridi abstained, but other opposition parties members attended the meeting.
The names of Justice Tariq Pervaiz and Justice Tanvir Ahmed had also been proposed.
Justice Raza Khan will have to resign as Chief Justice of Federal Shariat Court.
