ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah on Monday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to hold the constitutionally-required consultation over appointment of a permanent Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
Shah met Nawaz Shairf at Prime Minister’s House.
According tor reports, during the meeting both the leaders discussed different names for appointment as permanent CEC. As per 18th amendment to the constitution, the Prime Minister and Opp0sition Leader are required to hold meaningful consultation for appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and members of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The Supreme Court had given the government Dec 5 deadline to appoint a permanent CEC, otherwise it would withdraw its judge (Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali) who is currently serving as Acting Chief Election Commissioner.
