Muslim boy carrying cricket bat declared ‘terrorist’

BRUSSELS: A 22-year-old Pakistani cricket player Assim Abbasi and his family declared ‘terrorist’ and faced deportation orders by higher authorities over carrying cricket bat on public transport in Brussels.

The controversial decision was taken in Belgium where a Muslim boy put his cricket bat inside his shirt to save it from heavy rainfall.

Police circulated Abbasi’s photograph while ‘carrying weapon’ on the Brussels road.

The Muslim boy even contacted police department to clarify the situation that he was not armed and he was trying to save his cricket bat from to become wet as he was on his way to a practice session.

However, Pakistani foreign officials in Belgium reportedly took the case seriously and started necessary action to save their national facing expected deportation orders.

Sources said that his family will not be deported to Pakistan. Some reports claimed that Abbasi would file a case against local police over discriminatory behaviour.
