Zardari safe as explosion in Hyatt Churchill Hotel injures 12 in London

LONDON: As many as 12 people were injured after a gas explosion at Hyatt Regency Churchill hotel on Portman Square, local media reported on Friday.

According to reports, the explosion reportedly rocked the basement of the building in the area of the hotel’s kitchen shortly before midnight Friday.

“There was a gas explosion in the kitchen area of the hotel,” a Scotland Yard spokesman told The Telegraph.

The hotel was immediately vacated after the explosion while injured were shifted to local hospital with minor wounds.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari was reportedly in the hospital as well.
