MQM camp attacked in Orangi Karachi, 15 injured including MPAs

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmakers, Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Muhammad Hussain, Abdullah and Saifuddin Khalid, along with twelve activists severely injured on Friday night following a cracker attack in Karachi.

Banned militant outfit, Jamaat ul Ahrar claimed responsibility of the attack, Dawn News reported.

Unidentified assailants hurled grenade on the political party’s camp running membership campaign in densely populated Orangi Town area of the metropolis, police sources said.

According to Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) West, the attackers resorted heavy firing on the MQM workers before hurling the grenade on the camp and fled from the location.

Rescue teams shifted the injured persons to Abbasi Shaheed hospitals while some wounded in sensitive condition were shifted to Qatar Hospital.

MQM spokesperson confirmed attack on two lawmakers, MPAs Muhammad Hussain, Abdullah and Saifuddin Khalid, in the attack.

Medico Legal Officer (MLO) Abbasi Shaheed Hospital said that fifteen injured including three lawmakers admitted in the hospital, local media reported.

Law enforcement agencies including Rangers and Police cordoned off whole area and started search operation.
