Farhan Akhtar UN Women’s South Asia Goodwill Ambassador

MUMBAI: Indian actor Farhan Akhtar has been appointed as UN Women’s South Asia Goodwill Ambassador. 

The actor, son of songwriter Javed Akhar, has been vocal against crimes against women. India is one of the world’s most unsafe place for women with thousands of rape cases across the country each year. It has got notoriety for gang rapes.

Farhan gives credit to his fans for giving him the “energy” to stay on this path. After the announcement of his appointment, he received a large number of messages of support on Twitter.

“Thank you to all sending their love re the @UN_Women announcement. It is with your support that I’ve had the energy to stay on this path,” he tweeted on Friday.
