Debutant Yasir Shah eyes major role in Pakistan pursuit to end 20-year Aussies draught

DUBAI: Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah, one of the two debutants playing in the ongoing first test against Australia, is keen to play a major role is his side’s pursuit of ending the 20-year long draught against the Aussies to win a test series.

Yasir, who had to leave his home town Sawabi for want of cricket grounds there for Peshawar, the capital city of Pakistan’s north western province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), has impressed many through his performance, 3/66, which played a major role in restricting Australia to 303 for all out in the first inning.

“The test cap is a dream of every cricketer, but I want to play a major role in Pakistan’s success against  Kangaroos in the ongoing match and series,” Shah told BBC.
Former Australian spinner Shane Warn praised Yasir Shah after his 3/66 performance against Australia in first inning.

“The first wicket in ongoing test match will always be a memorable moment for me,” he said.

The leg-spinner added his brother, who lives in England, used to send him Shane Warn’s videos to watch for learning leg-spin bowling.
Yasir had played a One-day and two Twenty-20 against Zimbabwe in 2011, but failed to impress the selectors which cost him his place in the team.
However, his performance in first class cricket has been superb as he has so far grabbed 279 wickets.
