Suicide attack on Fazlur Rehman in Quetta, 3 killed, several injured

QUETTA: Three people were killed and several other injured when a powerful bomb blast near the public meeting venue of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal  (JUI-F) rocked the provincial capital, here  on Thursday, police said.

A JUI-F spokesman Maulana Amjad claimed it was a suicide attack which targeted the party chief convoy. However, police has not yet declared the attack as suicidal.

Maulana Amjad said JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman remained safe in the attack.

Police said that JUI-F had organised a public meeting at Sadiq Shaheed ground in Quetta titled as ‘Mufti Mehmood Conference.’  They said that when JUI-F chief was leaving the venue after concluding his speech, a power blast shook the ground.

According to preliminary reports, at least three people were killed and several others injured in the blast.

Meanwhile, a private TV channel quoted JUI-F chief as saying that his vehicle was targeted when he was leaving the meeting’s venue.  He said that he remained safe as his vehicle was bomb proof.
