KARACHI: A Dubai bound plane of a foreign airline caught fire at Karachi airport, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority sources and rescue officials said.
Following the fire, emergency was declared at the Airport and the passengers insides the plane were evacuated .
The sources said that smoked filled the cabin of the plane after it caught fire just before the take off. CAA sources said that some 200 passengers were inside the affected plane when it caught fire.
A CAA spokesman said that the fire broke out in a foreign airline flight, EK-607. He said that all the passengers were evacuated safely through emergency slide. Following the incident, flight operation from the airport was suspended.
Sources said that the airport had been closed and two Pakistan International Airline flights bound for Lahore and Islamabad were cancelled.
