China to provide scholarships to Pakistani students

CHENGDU: China will continue to collaborate with students from Pakistan by providing scholarships and other opportunities for the promotion of education, vice-dean of the International College of Education at Sichuan Normal University (SNU) Dr Yang yingyu while speaking to a delegation of students from the University of Karachi (UoK).


Dr Yang presented a lecture on the famous Chinese philosopher Mencius (c. 372 – 289 B.C) and the English translation of his works by many authors over the years.

A delegation of 13 students from the Confucius Institute at University of Karachi is currently on a fortnightly visit to Sichuan Normal University in Chengdu, China where they will be educated on Chinese language and culture besides taking part in cultural activities with local students.

Citing the inauguration of the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi and the signing of a MoU by then President Zardari, Dr Yang emphasised that to promote education, a lot of effort is being made up to the highest level of government in both countries.

Students from all over the world come to SNU to study Chinese, Dr Yang noted, and the Pakistani students had shown exceptional enthusiasm for learning during their stay at SNU. They were encouraged to play their part in building stronger ties between the two countries by becoming ambassadors for education and culture. To foster the friendship between the two nations, more students from Pakistan will be awarded scholarships and additional support to come to SNU and study Chinese, Dr Yang explained.

The students from Karachi were encouraged to go back and create cultural understanding by sharing what they had learnt during their brief visit to China.

Also present at the event were Associate Professor Nadeem Ahmed Khan, UoK, who presented Dr Yang with traditional Pakistani gifts, and the coordinators of the trip, Mr Affan Ahmed and Ms Deng Liangrou of SNU. Assoc.

Prof. Khan thanked the administration of SNU and said that the friendly and academic atmosphere provided to the Pakistani students was testament to the friendship between Pakistan and China.

He welcomed the offer of scholarships at SNU for Pakistani students and confirmed that UoK and SNU will continue such collaborative programs and activities in the future.
