Eurozone unemployment dips in May, official rate at 11.6%

Unemployment in the eurozone dipped by 28,000 jobs in May to 11.6 percent, official data showed on Tuesday, with continued signs of improvement in Portugal and Ireland.


A total 18.552 million people remained unemployed in the 18-member eurozone in April, down 636,000 from a year earlier, the Eurostat statistics agency said. The agency had announced a rate of 11.7 percent for April, but revised the figure lower to 11.6 percent.
