Pakistan open for business despite challenges: Khurram Dastgir

ISLAMABAD: Speaking in the National Assembly, Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan said Pakistan is open for business despite all the difficulties and challenges it is faced with.

He said a decisive decision has been taken to purge the country of terrorism.

He said it is our utmost effort to keep the trade normal in order to take forward the process of economic revival initiated by the present government.

Rejecting the criticism of the opposition regarding power outages, the Minister said several projects have been launched across the country to overcome the electricity crisis. He said all resources including hydel, nuclear and coal are being exploited to generate sufficient electricity for our domestic and industrial sectors.

He said the LNG terminal will also be shortly inaugurated to address the issue of gas shortages.

He said the economic diplomacy pursued by the government has started giving dividends. Our exports to the European Union rose to five hundred and seventy million dollars in the first four months of current calendar year as compared to the corresponding period last year.

This shows an increase of thirty percent in exports to the EU countries. He said process has also been started to boost trade relations with India, Iran and Afghanistan.

Responding to a point of order, Minister for Religious Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf said Quran Boards are being established at all the four provinces as part of efforts to promote the teachings of Holy Quran.

He said he has recently held a meeting with the concerned provincial ministers in this regard.

The Punjab government has already established the Quran Board while the other provinces are in the process of legislation to constitute the same boards.
