Sea water forces 500 to flee homes in Karachi

KARACHI: Cyclone Nanauk has sent almost 500 residents of coastal Bin Qasim town into migrating from their homes.

According to sources, the Arabian sea cyclone is too far from Karachi but still its destruction can be seen in the city as the Rairhi Goth, Dabla Goth and Lath Basti houses saw 3 foot of water entering into their houses.

While on the other hand, strong waves created a 20 ft wide hole in Kaiti Bandar Bachao Dam and coastal towns like Ahmad Sholani, Ahmed Malah, Sluman Sholani, Siddiq Sholani, Qasim Malah and 6 other villages were inundated.

It must be remembered that thousands of families are living for years in Karachi’s coastal belt but till today, no arrangements have been made to regulate such villages or for their development.
