KARACHI: Senior journalist and renowned anchorperson Hamid Mir released his first formal statement on Thursday; affirms his brother’s last statement declaring Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) responsible over attack in Karachi.
Hamid Mir is currently under treatment in a private hospital in Karachi, the metropolis of Pakistan, after receiving serious wounds following fatal attack on April 19.
Mir’s statement was conveyed by his brother, Amir Mir, again during a press conference conducted within premises of private hospital and surprisingly broadcasted only on Geo News.
The journalist seemed firm over declaring ISI’s responsibility for attacking on him while he was moving from Karachi airport.
Hamid Mir aimed to reveal more details and background factors of all incidents in an appropriate time in order fight against supremacy of democracy and law, countering terrorism, security of independence of expression, rights of small provinces and poor locals.
He condemned blockage of Geo News channel in various parts of the country via usage of power by governmental and state departments.
Serious security concerns for his brother and family members were expressed in the statement; imposing all responsibilities on current government and administration if they got affected.
Brother of the victim, Amir Mir, used ‘Holy Cow’ title for the Pakistan military’s intelligence department, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), during his press conference.
Amir Mir added everybody knows about the consequences faced by the journalists uncovering realities in national interests.
He said that the statement has been given to the Karachi Police joint investigation team for its record in the case.
Hamid Mir reveals:
Hamid Mir revealed that Geo administration, family members and closer friends were acknowledged regarding the dangers as well as he spotted some elements which could create risks for him and described by his brother Amir Mir.
Mir said that he won a new life by the grace of Allah and several prayers of the nation.
The journalist claimed that he was facing life threats from ‘state and non-state elements’ as well as some past incidents indicating upcoming severe consequences.
Hamid Mir stated that some intelligence agency officials visited his home during past few days and informed him about inclusion of his name in a hit-list of journalists, however, refused to reveal the name of list makers.
The journalist claimed that he informed the intelligence officials for expected dangers from ISI and the officials were requested to convey the message to their departmental authorities.
He said that ISI have serious reservation over his broadcasted programme in Geo TV’s Capital Talk covering the issue of Mama Qadeer’s long march for Balochistan’s missing persons’ rights.
Hamid Mir said that related intelligence department was informed with threats given to the journalists by state and non-state element as well as his awareness about ISI’s disappointment over his criticism regarding role of intelligence agencies in politics.
Hamid Mir questions:
Why he was not informed via letter regarding expected risks for his life?
Why security agencies failed to uncover responsible elements involved in planting explosive in his vehicle in November 2012, despite claim of taking responsibility by a banned outfit, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)?
Why Islamabad Police expressed disability to take strict moves against the elements producing life threats; even after provision of telephone numbers?
Why security agencies failed to take any action against attack on his children in the federal capital Islamabad?
