Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has given an approval for a legislation to declare the laws regarding second marriage of a man in the presence of first wife unconstitutional and against religious principles.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony, Sardar Mohammad Yousuf has confirmed the reports that the PM has given approval regarding to make new law.
Two days earlier, Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani, chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) had suggested the government that the law regarding to take permission for second marriage with first wife were against religious principles.
“Sharia allows men to have more than one wife and we demanded that the government should amend the law,” he told reporters.
The marriage laws were discussed in reply to letters sent by citizens seeking advice.
He advised the government to should amend the law to make the issue of more than one marriage easy and in according with Islamic principles.
