LONDON: PTI chairman Imran Khan’s nephew has apologized for calling a person ‘faggot’ on Twitter during an election campaign in a London University, London Evening Standard reported.
Hasan Niazi was taking part in the union president at City University.
He said sorry for using the word ‘faggot’ and clarified that it’s not an offensive term in his country.
He said, “It was taken totally out of context. I didn’t know what the word faggot meant here.”
“I was making a joke with my friend on Twitter without hurting anyone. The guy I used it against was a Pakistan politician. There are lots of parodies of him portraying him in a ‘sissy’ way,” he added.
“I will never use this word again. I am someone who believes we have to respect everyone and I fight for human rights. If anyone was hurt by the comments, I’m sorry,” he concluded the whole issue.
Niazi lost the election by just two votes. He is doing his masters in International Human Rights and aims to be a human rights lawyer one day.
