NEW DELHI: Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Union minister Shashi Tharoor, has mysteriously found dead in New Delhi’s five-star hotel just a day on Friday (today) after revealing her husband’s love-affair with a Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar.
Sunanda Pushkar’s dead body was found at a room in Leela Hotel who allegedly exposed her husband’s love affair with a Pakistani woman journalist, Mehr Tarar, yesterday via Twitter account hack, Time of India reported.
Mr Tharoor is a former UN diplomat who was once touted as a future secretary general.
Shashi Tharoor, India’s human resources minister – known as ‘Minister Twitter’ for his love of the social messaging site – was left acutely embarrassed after the messages appeared on his feed.
One message, which appeared to have been directly sent from Ms Tarar’s account, said: ‘I love you, Shashi Tharoor. And I go while in love with you, irrevocably, irreversibly, hamesha [always]. Bleeding, but always your Mehr.’
Mr Tharoor, 57, deleted the tweets, claiming his account had been ‘hacked’. But his wife, Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor, subsequently told two Indian newspapers that she had published the private messages between him and Ms Tarar.
They suggested to his more than two million followers that he was in the throes of a passionate affair with Mehr Tarar, a high profile journalist, British media reported.
As the indecorous row surrounding the suave 57-year-old Tharoor escalated, the controversy-prone minister took to Twitter to come out with a joint statement with his wife Sunanda Pushkar to say they were “happily married”, but distressed by “some unauthorised tweets”.
“We wish to stress that we are happily married and intend to remain that way. Sunanda has been ill and hospitalised this week and is seeking rest. We would be grateful if the media respects our privacy,” said the statement by Tharoor, who married Pushkar in 2010. The row erupted after exchange of some messages involving the three, some of them intimate.
“We are distressed by the unseemly controversy that has arisen about some unauthorised tweets from our twitter accounts,” the diplomat-turned politician said.
Pushkar had accused the 45-year-old Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar of stalking her husband and trying to “break” her marriage when she was away for medical treatment.
Both Tharoor and Pushkar had married twice before. The minister of state for human resources development is a Congress Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram.
