ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry has reiterated the country’s stance on the Siachen, Kashmir issues with India by saying that peaceful and negotiated settlements would be motivated.
Chaudhry added that Pakistan wants a peaceful and negotiated settlement of the Kashmir issue, adding that Islamabad believes in demilitarization of Siachen.
Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry in his weekly briefing in Islamabad said the issue can be resolved through broader understanding stating that the countries had come closer to resolution of this issue in 1998. The spokesman added that the Kashmiri leadership should also be included in talks over the region’s dispute.
He said that the US had stopped Nato supply through Torkhum border in view of the security of transporters.
When asked, he said that no construction could take place within the limit of 500 meters at the Line of Control and hoped that India would respect the agreement.
Regarding a statement of the prime minister about a possible fourth war, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said Nawaz Sharif was misquoted and added Pakistan had a well-known stance on Kashmir, which had been voiced consistently.
Replying to a question over drones attacks, he said Pakistan has not changed its stance over drone attacks which violate our sovereignty.
Chaudhry said Pakistan has raised the issue at all international forums including the United Nations.
Aizaz Chaudhry said economic development of the region is linked with resolution of our bilateral outstanding issues.
Regarding forcible expulsion of Yasin Malik from a hotel in New Delhi, he said Pakistan has expressed it concerns over the human rights violations in occupied Kashmir including the treatment meted out to the Kashmiri leadership.
On a question regarding revision of water accord between the two countries, Aizaz Chaudhry said Pakistan respects Indus Water Treaty and expects similar gesture from the other side.
The spokesperson said All Parties Conference made a decision on drone strikes and since then, Pakistan has effectively voiced against this issue on various international platforms including United Nations. He reiterated these are against sovereignty of Pakistan and have been proved counterproductive.
The spokesman said there is no proposal under consideration to open Talban office in Pakistan for dialogue. He, however, said Pakistan is facilitating Afghan reconciliation process.
He said the United States has suspended NATO supplies through Torkhum border because of security of transporters, however, they are continued through the southern route. He said the government has continued to facilitate the drawdown of NATO from Afghanistan.
