ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government on Thursday has finalised work plan for commencing privatisation of various national organisations; and signaled initiation of process from Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and Pakistan Steel Mills.
‘Under pressure’ Pakistan government has speeded up the privatisation process in light of the agreement made with International Monetary Funds (IMF), sources said.
According to reports, Pakistan’s federal authorities have decided to convert at least 7 government administered organisations in to private entities between 2013-14.
Large-scale downsizing would be occurred in the departments while numerous employees will be awarded by golden shake hand.
Overburden organisations on the National Treasure, Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and Pakistan Steel Mills has been placed in the front position amongst the queue departments as they are creating significant loss to the local economy worth trillions overall.
On the other hand, severe criticism and opposition was provided by the PIA’s employees union over the governmental moves.
Rizwan Laghari, President of PIA Employees’ Union, rejected the privatisation decision of the federal government and provided his stance that PIA could stand over its feet via proper management despite gifting it to the private sectors.
Rizwan Laghari, President of PIA Employees’ Union, told the local media via telephonic conversation that such governmental decision pertaining the privatisation of the department will be opposed in a strong manner.
