Islamabad: The United States government has committed to provide $20. million for construction of the Diamer-Bhasha dam.
A US embassy official said in Islamabad that out of this amount‚ 560‚000 dollars is for three additional feasibility studies for the dam.
He also said that as part of its ongoing programmes in Pakistan, the United States government will spend $14 million on the installation of smart meters for gauging electricity use at substations and countering the problem of power theft.
Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal had already told that the construction of Bhasha Dam was as important as completing the country’s nuclear programme.
“We have decided to build this dam at any cost, even if it requires us to tighten our belts.” Ahsan told earlier.
