Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan will hold an important inter-provincial meeting today to finalize schedule for local bodies election in the country.
According to a spokesman, Chief Election Commissionar Justice Tassduq Hussain Jillani will chair the meeting. He said that besides finalizing dates for the local bodies elections in Punjab, Sindh Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Cantonment areas, printing of ballot papers, preparation of magnetic ink and deployment of army will be included in the agenda of the meeting.
Chief secretaries and local government secretaries would explain the status in the provinces, he added.
The Printing Corporation of Pakistan (PCP), Pakistan Security Printing Corporation (PSPC) and Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) will explain arrangements for procurement of election material.
The PCP and PSPC will explain plans for procurement of paper and printing of the requisite number of ballot papers and other material, while the PCSIR will brief the meeting about preparation of magnetised inkpads.
The meeting will also discuss availability of funds, appointment of district returning officers, returning officers and assistant returning officers.
Finalisation of election symbols, timeline for completion of prerequisites for the polls and security arrangements at sensitive polling stations would also come under discussion.
The chairman of National Database and Registration Authority, Tariq Malik, will give a briefing about printing and dispatch of final electoral rolls to provinces and cantonment areas.
