LAHORE: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has expressed deep grief over the loss of life and property in a sectarian incident in Rawalpindi, and said that foreign agencies were involved in the incident.
In a statement here on Saturday, he said that government had failed to maintain law and order. He said, after the Gujranwala incident, the security should have been high alert but the government was content with routine security measures and the miscreants got an opportunity to achieve their goal.
The JI Ameer said, the government would have to take extraordinary measures to avert sectarian clashes in the country because the anti state and anti Islam forces never missed any opportunity to harm national unity and harmony.
Syed Munawar Hasan called upon the government to convene a meeting of the leading Ulema from the both sides to reach the roots of the matter and the side that
was found at fault, must be given stringent punishment so that no body had the courage to disturb peace again.
He said it was the duty of the police and security institutions to ensure that the mourning procession adopted its set route and did not divert from it, as had been the cause of the clash.
Syed Munawar Hasan also appealed to the both sides to display patience and tolerance as Islam preached love and brotherhood. Shedding the blood of fellow Muslims was not permissible n Islam and it also undermined unity of the Ummah, he added.
General secretary JI women’s wing, Dr Rukhsana Jabeen also demanded that govt should take strict action against those responsible for the lives of people.
Dr Jabeen questioned that police was present at the place but remained silent. She said that burning of mosque is not tolerable and govt should immediately take action to restore peace.
