Washington: Search engine giant Google now gearing up to launch its highly anticipated tablet Google Nexus 5, a new report claims Google will hold an event this month for its official launch.
The report suggested that, the company will officially announce the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat on October event. The Nexus 5 will reportedly ship in late October.
Google recently reduce the prices of its Nexus 4 smartphones, most likely in a bid to get rid of inventory to make room for its next flagship handset, the Nexus 5.
The company’s plan worked and it completely sold out of the smartphones in a matter of days. Google will reportedly announce the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat at a special event it is reportedly holding this month. The company is expected to market the Nexus 5 as “half the price” of the iPhone 5S, with the same performance.
According to a recent TechRadar report citing an anonymous source, the Nexus 5 will continue Google’s tradition of selling a high-performance smartphone at a low price. The tipster says the Nexus 5 will cost “half the price” of the iPhone 5S and match it in performance. It is suggested that Google wants to match the iPhone 5s’ 64-bit processing functionality and plans on using the latest quad-core Snapdragon processor and up to 4GB of RAM to provide “a desktop-like experience.”
The Nexus 5 is expected to feature a 5-inch 1080 x 1920 Full HD IPS display with a pixel density of 442 pixels per inch (ppi). It will reportedly be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, have between 2GB to 4GB of RAM and launch as the first smartphone to run Android 4.4 KitKat.
The handset will include an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. The smartphone’s wireless capabilities are expected to include a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and GPS, and it will also sport wireless charging out of the box. It is expected to be offered in 16GB or 32GB of internal storage configurations and use a 2,300mAh battery.
Google hasn’t announced any plans for an October event, but the latest rumors are pointing to an Oct. 14 unveiling. The Nexus 5 is expected to go on sale and ship later this month.
