KARACHI/QUETTA: Powerful earthquake struck southwest Pakistan on Saturday, TheNewsTribe’s correspondent from Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan reported.
Quake shocks have been reported from Jakobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur Nathan Shah districts in southern province Sindh and Quetta, Awaran, Sibi, Chaghi, Dalbandin, Jafarabad and Dera Allah Yar districts of Balochistan.
“Hundreds of patients being treated in the aftermath of the previous quake fled a hospital in panic as the new tremor hit” TheNewsTribe’s correspondent from Awaran added.
Awaran, a remote region in the province of Baluchistan, was shattered by a 7.7-magnitude quake on Tuesday which left 359 dead and more than 100,000 people homeless.
This time earthquake hit southwest Pakistan in a region already devastated by a quake which left more than 300 dead just 3 days ago.
According to the Pakistan’s Meteorological Department, the epicentre of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake was Awaran area in Balochistan province at a depth of 47 kilometres.
Pakistan’s chief meteorologist Arif Mehmood told television channel Express News that the magnitude of Saturday’s quake measured 7.2.
It is a new earthquake rather than after shocks as stated by Chief Meteorologist Tauseef Alam. however Director General (DG) MET said that it was not a new earthquake, It were after shocks of the quake has been reported 3 days ago which will continue in coming days.
The new tremor struck 96 kilometres (59 miles) northeast of the district of Awaran at a depth of 14 km at 1234 (0734 GMT) according to the US Geological Survey.
“We are checking but no reports of losses have yet been received,” Jan Mohammad Buledi, spokesman for the provincial government of Baluchistan told the media.
