KARACHI: Pakistan’s largest city Karachi including other urban parts of southern province Sindh have been closed over the arrest of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) former lawmaker in the targeted operation to maintain law and order situation.
The personnel arrested Nadeem Hayat Hashmi last night from the Karachi’s North Nazimabad area.
According to Pakistan’s largest independent and bilingual news website, TheNewsTribe’s correspondent from Karachi and Hyderabad “the workers in the cities and towns across Sindh reacting spontaneously against the last night arrest of the MQM former member provincial assembly came out on the streets strongly protesting the police highhandedness and torched tyres, closed petrol pumps and blocked the roads.”
The shops used to open early morning, schools, CNG and petrol pumps were soon closed and transport disappeared from the roads giving the city a look of an undeclared strike.
According to the Karachi police sources “some unknown persons also torched a passenger coach near the jump stop at Nasir Colony, Korangi and two others in different parts of the city.”
The shops, CNG stations and road traffics in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and a few other towns across Sindh were forced to close down, while the youths and children voicing slogans, burnt tyres on the roads.
Meanwhile, Karachi Police, during search operation in different areas of the metropolis, arrested several suspects and recovered arms from their possession on Wednesday.
SSP East Imran Shaukat said heavy contingent of police, including commandos, conducted targeted operation in Rabia City, Gulistan-e-Johar, Perfume Chowk and Malir on tip about presence of the suspects in these areas.
Police recovered fake number plates of government vehicles and seized arms. Police had the lists of wanted suspects during the operation. Some of the arrested persons belong to political parties.
